Difficult to get special wood...

In USA I could buy all kind of wood for different project, but after moving to Spain, I have very difficult to find wood other than Plywood and Pine, and sizes is limited.

I like to work with Poplar wood, and I have only been able to find this in a company in Madrid.

Also here sizes is limited, and both the special imported wood and shipping cost is very expensive.

Poplar Wood is widely used in North America, white-cream in color, sometimes with green or gray lines.

It is soft and very easy to work with, although it is necessary to use finer grain sandpaper than with other woods to achieve a smooth surface. It accepts gluing and all kinds of finishes without problems.

Shou Sugi Ban

Shou Sugi Ban is an ancient Japanese architectural technique that was used to preserve wood by charring the surface with a hot flame. Shou Sugi Ban is also known as Yakisugi and traditionally was performed on Sugi wood, which is a Japanese cedar. The process involved charring the wood, cooling it, cleaning off any soot or burnt debris on the surface, and finally finishing the boards with an oil.

Although you may consider fire to be an enemy of wood, only causing its degradation, Shou Sugi Ban actually enhances durability and is a natural means of preserving wood without chemicals, paints and other surface treatments.
